Everyone was left in awe when a dalmatian mama gave birth to an impressive 18 puppies. This is twice the amount usually expected for a first-time mother dog. Last April, Nellie, a three-year-old pooch, went through a challenging 14-hour labor. Louise Clement, a breeder from Preston in Lancashire, England, assisted with the delivery and was taken aback as 10 male and eight female puppies were born. Seeing all these adorable bundles of fur together is truly a sight to behold.

As reported by The Independent, Clement shared that her dog Nellie had a smooth natural delivery, but the litter seemed to never end. Despite believing that Nellie was done after the 15th pup, she delivered three more. Clement, being a former nurse, was there for each birth and helped Nellie in identifying each puppy by putting colored collars on them. She was very proud of Nellie and praised her as a wonderful mother.

Meet Clement, a seasoned dog breeder who has been raising dalmatians for more than 30 years. With a total of 27 dogs in her care, Clement assures us that her home has enough space and toys to keep her furry friends happy and engaged. She even admits to having some of her dogs snuggle with her in bed from time to time! While she plans to keep one of Nellie’s puppies to add to her current pack, Clement will also sell the remaining pups to new owners when they are old enough to leave their mother. Dalmatians have a rich history as “coach dogs” and were initially bred to accompany nobles, travelers, and firefighters. According to the American Kennel Club, dalmatians are known for their affectionate nature, protective instincts, and unique and recognizable coat.

Metro has reported that Nellie, a Dalmatian from the UK, is popular for giving birth to a large number of puppies. However, in 2019, a dog named Melody from Albury, Australia set a new world record for her breed by delivering a litter of 19 puppies. Melissa O’Brien, Melody’s breeder, explained to The Canberra Times that the mother put on around 33 pounds during her pregnancy and had to undergo a cesarean section with assistance from 8 medical specialists. Although O’Brien claims that having big litters is usual in her profession, Melody’s litter was the biggest she had ever seen. O’Brien and her family named all of the puppies after Disney characters to keep track of them and commended their bomb-proof temperaments. Like Clement, O’Brien decided to keep one puppy and sell the rest of the litter. Despite the impressive achievement, O’Brien stated that some of the puppies required additional feeding and bottle-feeding to help their mother.
